HIGHEST MOUNTAIN PEAK IN WESTERN GHATS

·        Anamudi  is a mountain located in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the highest peak in the Western Ghats and South India, at an elevation of 2,695 metres (8,842 ft). ·        The name Anamudi literally translates to "elephant's hair," a reference to the resemblance of the mountain to an elephant's head. ·        It is the highest point in India south of Himalayas. Thus it is known as " Everest of South India ".

          The Kangchenjunga is the highest mountain peak in India and ranked 3rd highest summit in the world with an elevation of 8,586 m (28,169 ft). The highest mountain Kangchenjunga is located at the border of India and Nepal in the great Himalayas range,Sikkim.           Kangchenjunga section contains five peaks and the region has twelve more peaks over 7,000 m (23,000 ft). ARYABHATA

          The first Indian space satellite was named Aryabhata to honour this great mathematician and  astronomer . He was also known as Asmak after the community to which his ancestors belonged. His treatise, Aryabhatiya, is the earliest existing work on mathematics and scientifically accurate planetary astronomy. This led to the formation of a new school of thought named after him.           He was born in Kerala in 476 A.D. Typical of the times, he lived in, little was recorded of his personal life to the extent that the date of his death is not known. It is known, however, that he settled at the celebrated University of Nalanda, near Patna in Bihar, also known as Kasumpur or Patliputra. Here he wrote his masterpiece using the great observatory Khagole, at the age of 23. King Buddha Gupta made him head of the university in recognition of his merit.           The deepest point of Earth's continents has been identified in Queen Mary Land, East Antarctica. The canyon buried under the ice of the Denman Glacier reaches 11,500 feet (3.5 kilometers) below sea level, for comparison, the lowest exposed land on Earth, the Dead Sea in the Jordan Rift Valley, is just 1,355 feet (413 meters) below sea level.
